Competition Now Closed

The Freddie Photo competition is now CLOSED. We have had some really great entries, we will be hosting the presentation evening in about a months time as we need some time to sift through all the entries and match the winning photographs to the song. We will contact everyone who has entered by post within the next few weeks inviting you to the presentation evening where the winner will be announced and the prizes handed out.

Thank you for all the entries.

Latest Update

Freddie Gilroy Photographic Competition Opens !

The team here @ freddie HQ, have been hard at work, running around like headless chickens to bring you the best photographic competition Scarborough has ever seen !

The objective of the competition is to put together a song written by Martin Nesbitt and photographs of Scarborough. Hopefully it will showcase our town from a public perspective. What images make the individual love living or coming here. What is their favourite view, time of year, building, place to go or  thing to look at. I ask each individual to be creative, be inspired or just be down right quirky in their choice of photograph. The song itself is a thank you to Mrs Robinson  for the purchase of Freddie for our town and a thank you from Freddie for being  so wonderfully welcomed here.

You can find all the details and how to enter the competition here

Graffiti Removal Team Move In

The Graffiti Removal Team Do An Amazing Job

The Graffiti Removal Team has been hard at work for most of the day applying specialist processes to clean the yellow paint off the sculpture. The team has consulted closely with the creator of the sculpture, Ray Lonsdale, to ensure that any cleaning processes used do not damage it. I am delighted to inform you that we have been able to remove 99.9% of the paint, although there will be some more delicate work required over the coming days to remove any paint that may have seeped into the folds and hard to reach areas of the sculpture.
People will notice that the areas of the sculpture that have been subject to the cleaning process now have a patchy black/brown appearance rather than the lustrous brown we have been used to seeing. This is not damage and is simply where the cleaning process has taken off the naturally occurring oxidisation. We have been assured by the creator that these patches will re-oxidise within a period of six weeks, returning Freddie to his usual colour and appearance.
Thank you to all those who offered their help and thanks today during the cleansing process, it made a very difficult and cold task a lot easier. Thank you.

- Shane Barker, Scarborough Borough Council
